Valerie Tan
is a self-taught artist who has had a lifelong interest in the arts. She paints with acrylics and oilbars and has developed a naive style using "poster" colors and house/neighborhood themes. She has helped organize art events in Vermillion and has sold paintings locally. After several trials with different mediums and many migraines later she now paints exclusively in Acrylics. Her paintings are also inspired by her reality of being a mother of an eight year old child who loves to read and be read to. The paintings have bright color are more primitive as illustrations may be in a child's book.

Artists Statement

My work is reflectant of my belief that no matter what age we are there is a child still inside us. The bright colors in my villages, landscapes and backgrounds are the "rose colored" glasses of the world I would like to live in. My art is my escape from the daily stresses of life. To look at my paintings cheers me during the day and brings me as much happiness and relief as it does my family who lives with these paintings on the walls.
