The Carrboro Parks Project received incorporation as a non-profit organization in September of 2001.

Former Carrboro Mayor Mike Nelson and Alderman Joal Broun cut the ribbon for Carrboro's fenced dog run area at Anderson Park
From the beginning the Parks Project membership set out to fulfill their mission statement “to improve the quality of life in Carrboro through the protection and improvement of parks and recreational facilities, including greenways and green space.”

This group has used creative fundraising methods involving the community and grant agencies to fund a fence at Anderson Park for the Dog Park and a shade sail at the Town Commons Play Area. Currently, they are raising funds for a new tennis backboard at Wilson Park.

The Recreation and Parks Commission will present the Parks Project members with certificates at the recognition reception. Following the recognition reception, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen will present a proclamation to the Parks Project members at the Board of Aldermen’s meeting.
