School Programs:Louise's work with young people is upbeat, interactive, thoughtful, and has curriculum tie ins with language arts, social studies, character education, theatre, science, religious studies, and visual arts. Louise has been a full time professional storyteller, working actively with school audiences and providing in service training for teachers since 1981. She provides age appropriate performances for audiences Preschool through Adult, and has toured in schools from NC to Alaska , from MS to VT and many of the places in between! She performs both solo, and with long time collaborators Beverly Botsford, percussionist and Mike Hamer, musician and wheelchair dancer. A former president of the Youth Association for Retarded Citizens, and currently an artist in residence with the Family Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Chatham County, Louise encourages the participation of special education classes and students with special needs. The "Kids Workshop" she developed in her work with children at the Family Violence Center is available, on a limited basis, to other groups of children with special needs. Her 20 hour in service workshops for teachers have been extraordinarily well received. "She encouraged all of us to share ourselves and our stories with the other participants, which was no small feat, given the diversity of the backgrounds and experiences of the participants. She also did a tremendous job of bringing out reticent participants, encouraging reluctant participants, and building the self esteem of every single one of us.
