Debbie Suchoff enjoys her Wednesday morning art classes with teacher Jane Filer. When she saw so much incredible artwork being created, she felt an exhibit of some of the work was in order. And what better place than Carrboro Town Hall? Debbie started the wheels in motion for an exhibit of students of Jane.Jane Filer teaches acrylic and oil painting classes at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro. Her classes include beginners as well as continuing students. Jane provides individualized instruction, discussion, and critiques to her students, while encouraging their own unique creativity. "Coming to my class is like going to a party, except that you're creating while you're there. It's fun! We talk about anything and everything. Just give me a subject and we'll discuss it for hours," says Jane with a wide grin. ![]() Showing their work in an exhibit entitled "Mornings with Jane," are Mary Bastin, Jan Butta, Linda Carmel, Patricia Leight, Carolyn Mottola, Ebeth Scott-Sinclair, and David Taylor. The artists participating in this exhibit are seven of the students Jane currently teaches on Wednesday mornings. All seem hooked on Jane, her style of teaching, and her view of things.
"Mornings with Jane" will be on exhibit from June 1, 2004 - August 15, 2004, with a reception on Sunday, June 6, 2004 from 2- 4 pm at Carrboro Town Hall. All of the artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Jane also plans to pop in for a short discussion period.Filer also included one piece in the exhibit, a painting of her dog, which isn't for sale. With two shows currently running, "It's the only piece I have," says Jane. Filer's recent exhibit at Tyndall Gallery in University Mall was a sold out show. "The pieces kept selling, and I kept taking in more," said Filer.
