![]() ![]() History of the Mural · The Mural Controversy · The Mural Repaint · A Poetic Conclusion Catherine DeVine came up with an idea to put a poetic spin on the project. A poem consisting of 32 words will be written, with one word painted into each spot that needs changing. Each of these spots will be numbered to help piece the puzzle together that makes up the poem. The mural was originally created on the last Sunday in September last year during the Carrboro Music Festival. A ruling by the Appearance Commission determined that the mural as it is violates local ordinances prohibiting logos or ads of this type. A resolution was passed in May to extend the deadline imposed for completing the repainting to September 28, a year after the original creation. Because it will take time to repaint the 32 ads in violation, the Committee hopes to begin the process in early September. The following business ads are in violation and will be corrected with the repainting.
