As of July, 2005, you can now register with SCAN, the Safe Community Alert Network, and be notified when sexual offenders have moved into your neighborhood. To sign up go to http://www.scanusa.com. According to the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry there are currently 72 registered sexual offenders in Orange County, NC.

Do any of these guys look familiar to you? They should. If you live in Orange County, NC, they might live or work in your neighborhood, be involved in community activities, or go to your church. They seem as nice and normal as the guy next door, because they are the guy next door.

They are also registered sexual offenders in Orange County, NC. The men pictured here are registered as living in Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Mebane and Orange County. Each of these individuals has been convicted as a sexual offender.

Over the past few years I've update this webpage by going into the registry and getting these pictures so, at a glance, you can see the individuals in our community that have been convicted of sexual offenses. All of these individuals have been registered sexual offenders in Orange County. Each time I hope there aren't more pictures, but there always are. Particularly disturbing to me this time is the number of younger looking offenders.

When we were growing up, sexual abuse just wasn't talked about. Your next door neighbor could've been a sexual offender, the guy down the street, or the man you called Dad. Even if they had been convicted of the crime, chances were the folks in your neighborhood never knew...until it was too late. It's not right, no matter who it is, and we as adults must make sure our kids can come to us if they find themselves in the midst of these sexual predators.

Hopefully, the days of silence are gone. However, sexual offenders are not and never will be, as was witnessed in the recent worldwide investigation and arrest of Internet pedophiles. This investigation took agents right next door, to Chapel Hill. While the individuals in this particular incident were arrested, it's a pretty safe bet there are thousands who don't get caught.

And then there are the convicted offenders you see here, right in our own backyards. If we aren't careful they will be inside our houses, trying any way they know to get close to our kids. Sometimes they will volunteer, working with youth groups. Often background checks are not done.

The good news is that today, with a few clicks of a mouse, you can find out about every convicted sexual offender in your area, thanks to the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Stay one step ahead of these creeps by knowing their names and faces. Your children may benefit greatly from your knowledge.

Know who these guys are! The only protection parents have is trying to prevent it from happening. If you have kids call them in to look at these pictures. Know who is a threat.
