“Whirlpool” is a double walled (hollow) construction. It was created using an outer wall and a series of inner walls which support the central bowl and top surface. This method allows a clay piece, which would crack if it were solid, to have volume.
I conceive my work as pure form without any literal interpretations. However, when finished they often combine elements which suggest natural forms as well as graphic ones. My intent with “Whirlpool” was to build a form which would create a sense of slow movement projecting a kind of quiet energy.
