2015 Sculpture

11. Harvest
Lemon grass, soil
Paul Vernon

I am intrigued with the creative process; I strive to create something novel and new that’s never been seen before. In a recent series I have been exploring how changing the material used to create a sculpture can change the meaning and the viewer’s interpretation of that piece. The images in “Harvest” have been reproduced in clay, bronze, aluminum, cast iron, blown glass, vacuum formed plastic, and mushroom mycelium. These root heads are a continuation of that exploration by growing plants into molds I originally designed for blown glass in order to create these root-bound images. The possible interpretation of these pieces will change as the pieces themselves slowly change from green and freshly harvested to dry and aged throughout the course of the exhibit.
