19. Unbroken Chain
New Mexican onyx
William Moore

Lightning flashes across the western horizon; fire blazes across the landscape. All that is organic and flammable crumbles into ash, washes into the soil, and makes room for the land to regenerate. Last year’s seed finds new light, older rootstock begins to regrow, and once again the landscape is rich and fertile and lush.

This sculpture reflects that cycle and explores the continuous sequence of change; from deluge to drought, from fire to rebirth, the unbroken chain of calamity and renewal.
